MUSIC VIDEO INFLUENCES- (lynda omolaja)

Starting point 1:30 - 1:44

We favoured this music video because of the split screen effects it consists of, from the starting point you can see that the music video is spilt into a split screen then it joins back together on a certain object or person. We thought this would be a strong effect to consider when constructiong our music video.  We also liked the use of chiffon cloth for blindfolds because the material is almost transperent (so we can still see the person's feautures) but their faces are still covered.

Starting point 0:01 - 1:01

We liked the way the way the music video begins with the camera privelledging Odell as he is central focus. We also liked the way the music video is dim but then becomes lighter as the camera slowly zooms out to the scenery of the room.

Starting point 1:58 - 2:43)

We also like the way Odell seems immune to the touches of his love interest  (even when she is shouting and hitting him)  and also oblivious to his sourounding as he remains seated in the same position for the majority of the song. We became aware that is a common convention in music videos e.g. The verve - Bittersweet Symphony, the artist seems completly unaware of his whereabouts as he constantly walks forward and even in to other people.

Thirdly, we favoured the way the lighting of this music changed continuously. In addition, we also liked the "vintage" setting;  with the old wooden chairs, the use of the bookcase and the stereo. This is a common convention in indie music videos.

We liked the setting used in this music video. The dark field really related to the eerie feel of the song. Also the random objects and people put in place e.g the swings, car (0:08 - 0:26), caravan (1:05 - 1:25) and horses (2:28 - 2:32) held our attention through the entire duration of the video.

We liked the clouds of steam that was used throughout the entire video. The clothes and makeup worn by the lead singer and the clothes worn by the band also caught our attention because they were kept very simple but their positioning in the music video let us know that they were the main focuses in the video. The use of fire (1:31 - 1:36) also intrigued us as it made the music video feel more dangerous as the extras watched intensely at the flames.

3 WORDS:

ANOTHER LOVE:

NIGHTCALL:

We liked the way the camera only privilledges Lorde throughout the entire music video and the use of dark makeup keeps the eyes of the audience solely focused upon her.

TENNIS COURT:

MERCY:

The clothing used in this music video influenced us alot. The fact that all the artists and extras in this video are dressed in biker jackets gives a somewhat "gang - like" and dangerous look to the video. We also admired the use of editing in this e.g (1:04 - 1:11) the artist Big Sean is split into two and also (1:20 - 1:28) shows the entire footage moving side to side when Kanye West says "swerve".
