WHAT IS A DIGIPAK?

A digipak is a type of CD packaging which relates to the genre of the music being included on the CD inside. Normally the digipak would be made u of the front cover, ofen having an image with the artists name on the front and an album name, an inside left hand side cover, a section for the CD and the tracklist of the names of the songs on the back. The digipak will have to include a consistent house style througohut in order for it to look professional and realistic like other existing digipaks. Quite often digipaks will display the artists message through the images used throughout the digipak, this also links to the emphasis that it will begin to have on the artists image creating more of a popularity in relation to the audience. It also is seen as a representation of the kind of artistic approach that the artist is taking within the music. As well as the digipak, the brand image and the music video will all have to link and be woven together in order to make some consistency.

In order to get some ideas and gain more of an understanding to how a digipak should be formed I analysed a album by Rihanna called 'LOUD'. By doing this it would give me some inspirtation when it come to me and my group designing an contructing our digipak for our music video.

The front cover of the album is quite unique whereby there is just a image of the artist talking up the entire perimeter of the front cover. In addition to this there is some text indicating the artists name and the title of the album. However, the text isn't that eye catching due to the regular style of text whereby it doesnt stand out as much as the image itself. In addition to this the text is positioned to the edge of the album cover, outside of the focal point, meaning that it is unlikely that someone will capture the text before the image. On the front cover of the album the artists mis en scene is displayed very well. This is due to the use of red throughout; lips, hair and blusher. By sticking to a colour wich becomes a housestyle as such throughout then it creates the effect that the abum looks more professional and more thought about, rather than miss matched and out of place. The use of the close up shot enables us to focus of her emotions and facial expressions which are captured really well in this shot. The clarity and quality of the imagine makes the entire front cover makes her facial expressions much more defined enabling the audince to interpret her emotions as they wish. However from looking at the image itself it seems to show that
